Off-Script Family Thought #1

Published on February 20th, 2013

I think it’s fair to say that most of us have a desired script for life.  It’s there in our minds.  We can see it.  We can picture it.  And then we chase it!  Often, this is also true for our families.  We have a desired path we would like our family to travel.  But

My Pennsylvania baby is 2!

Published on February 7th, 2013

My wife and I have had a child in each state where we have lived since getting married.  It’s not unusual for us to refer to our kids as the “ones born in Indiana.”  Or, “you were our Illinois baby.”  Or, “you are our Pennsylvania baby.”  That’s Cambree…our Pennsylvania baby.  She’s now two years old.

What’s Your Rallying Cry?

Published on February 6th, 2013

Have you ever been encouraged to develop a vision statement for your family?  A statement that will help drive how your family functions, responds, etc.  Supposedly, these statements should keep us centered (sane?) when franticness arrives.  The “experts” even say,  “during those seasons of franticness, review your statement and then just live it out.”

Frantic Families?!!

Published on January 30th, 2013

This is one of my favorite pictures.  Ever.  It’s my son Caden who happened to fall asleep at the top of the stairs.  Exhausted.  Too tired to move.  Probably the result of a busy season for our family where he was just done.  Ever find yourself falling asleep at the top of the stairs?  Perhaps

pumpkins

Published on October 31st, 2012

It’s Halloween.  I have six kids.  Six kids = six pumpkins.  Pumpkins aren’t my favorite thing.  They’re orange, filled with nastiness, and smell bad.  Does anyone else think this way?  I’m actually starting to enjoy them though.  Uniquely, pumpkins bring my family together.  There’s creativity, laughter, and cooperation.  At the end of the day, the

1st Birthdays!

Published on February 11th, 2012

We just celebrated another 1st birthday in our home.  Cambree is growing fast, and it’s hard to believe that she’s already been a part of our lives for one year.  Happy Birthday baby girl!  You are loved.  I can’t imagine life without your beautiful smile.  I can’t imagine life without your laugh.  I can’t imagine

perfect kids?!

Published on January 20th, 2012

Perfect kids…forget about it.  How about intentional parenting?  It seems that every great revelation on parenting starts with the phrase, “I read a book.”  This is actually a very annoying thing to hear.  I only like the books I read (just kidding – er…maybe not).  Whenever you hear that phrase, you know you’ve got to

leaves…

Published on November 25th, 2011

My wife started this tradition several years ago where we write out some of the different things that we’re thankful for on leaves (fake ones).  We then hang them up in our house as a reminder.  Honestly, I wasn’t’ crazy about the idea when it started.  Now, I look forward to it.  It’s a simple
