Big Deal #3

BigDeal_logo #3“There’s a statement of Jesus recorded in Acts that doesn’t appear in the Gospels.  Perhaps God added it later so it would stand out.  ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).’

We often become absorbed with ‘getting what’s ours.’  When that happens, we miss what brings the real blessing and joy – giving God what’s His.  Giving is doing what we were made for:  Loving God and our neighbors.  Generous giving boldly affirms that God owns everything.  Our own generosity then is is a response to the grace of God in our lives.  It doesn’t come out of our altruism or philanthropy – it comes out of the transforming work of Christ in us.  We give because He first gave to us.  And this generosity jump-starts our friendship with God.  It opens our fists so we can receive what God has for us.  Let’s embrace Christ’s invitation:  ‘Give, and it will be given to you.'”  The Treasure Principle, Randy Alcorn
