run to the messes…

Published on November 16th, 2013

messy mainRun to the messes.  This little sentence has been challenging me recently.  How intentional am I about helping people?  How much time do I give to those who don’t have the perfect life, the perfect family, the perfect job, and the perfect house?  Sometimes life gets messy for people and they experience things that make their lives…messy and imperfect.  It’s in those moments that a true friend can make a lasting difference.  But are we willing to run into these messes?  Are we willing to give the time?  Are we willing to put something down and inconvenience our own lives in order to serve others?  Find some messy people who need a dose of compassion.  Find some messy people who could use a sprinkling of empathy.  Find some messy people who need your time.  And then, put yourself aside.

“Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others
get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.”  Philippians 2:3-4
