Getting Naked

Catchy title, eh?  I just finished reading this business fable by Patrick Lencioni.  I’ve read one other book by Lencioni that still is one of my favorites.  He provides such amazing insight into how to “do” things in a creative way.  He’s a powerful storyteller.  It’s definitely not a vacuous narrative.  This book is basically about vulnerability.  Its message is one of building authentic relationships that lead to fantastic client services.  Here are a few thoughts that really challenged me…

  • Tell the kind truth.  People respond to honesty when it’s done with kindness, empathy, and respect.
  • Enter the danger.  Don’t run from problems or difficult situations.  Deal with the issues that everyone else is afraid to address.
  • Celebrate your mistakes.  Be quick to laugh at yourself.
  • Make everything about the client.  Throw your full attention into the world of others.  The focus should be on understanding and supporting the client, not on your experience and knowledge.
